Cultural Academy initiates revival of Rutt-Rahre

KATHUA: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has come forward to revive Rutt Rahre- the old rich tradition of Dogra culture in the premises of J and K Cultural Academy today in collaboration with Duggar Sanskriti Sangam, Batehra.
Today, on the eve of Sankranti- first day of Asharh, the female folk from Batehra visited the premises and created seven Rutt Rahras, a traditional folk form related with irrigation through which in a traditional manner, females seeded Maize, Wheat, Sesame, Millet with creating Rangoli in an artistic manner. During creating Rutt Rahras, they also song folk songs related with Rutt Rahras in a very impressive way using Bhaakh- a famous folk form.
Dhian Singh- prominent Dogri Poet, scholar, writer and founder of Duggar Sanskriti Sangam,Batehra while interacting with the children of Children Summer Workshop, told that Rutt Rahras is an old tradition through which the farmers, as an experiment and testing sow some seeds especially during the month of Asharh and after a gap of one month, they could decide as per the mood of weather, which crops will be beneficial.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary while speaking on the occasion said that through Rutt Rahras in the premises of Cultural Academy, the students of Children Summer Workshop can be enlightened to know about the rich old tradition which was the part of our life. He also thanked Dhian Singh and his team of Duggar Sanskriti Sangam, Batehra for taking initiative to revive this dying form of Rutt Rahre. He appreciated the contribution of Lajwanti and Party including- Manisha Kumari, Shamu Devi, Raj Rani, Veena Devi, Krihna Devi and Toshi Devi.
Ashok Gupta, Editor Dogri conducted the proceedings and also presented vote of thanks.
Others present on the occasion include T.S Batra, Dr. Monojit, O.P Sharma, Dr. Baljit Raina, Rajinder Samyal, Jung S. Burman, Surinder Sagar, parents , students of Children Summer Workshop and editorial staff of the academy.
