JAMMU: Chairman of AIIMS Coordination Committee (CC) and President Bar Association Jammu, Advocate Abhinav Sharma along with ten other members of Coordination Committee on Friday sat on hunger strike to protest the anti-Jammu and unjust decision of the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir to shift the sanctioned AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir valley. Congress party is also supporting this agitation against discrimination with Jammu Province.
Others who sat on chain hunger strike included retired Sessions Judge Pavitar Singh, President JPPF, Narayan Singh President Shri Amar Kashtriya Rajput Sabha, Anan Sharma, President J and K Tanker Association, Rajiv Chunni, President SoS, Inderjeet Khajuria, President Hotel and Lodges Association, Devinder Chowdhary, President Taxi Union, Peeran Ditta, President Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Professor B L Bhardwaj, JPPEF, Shyam Lal Bassan, President Dalit Chetna Manch, and Kapil Sharma, President Dogra Liberation Front.Addressing the gathering at lawns of Maharaja Hari Singh memorial on River Tawi Bridge, Abhinav said that it is the biased coalition government in the state and certain vested interests in New Delhi have forced the people of Jammu Province to take this agitational path despite the fact that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on 28th February announced on the floor of the Lok Sabha that the proposed AIIMS will be established in Jammu. Abhinav regretted that the rigid authorities remained adamant on the issue despite the fact that the people of Jammu Province observed two massive Bandhs on 24th April and 27th May and organised a very largely participated Torch Light protest march in the streets of Jammu on 5th June. “The group, a collection of more than 70 social, religious, political and business organisations in Jammu, was established to demand an AIIMS in the region”, Sharma informed.”The indefinite chain hunger strike will continue till the demand is fulfilled by the Central and State governments,” he maintained. He further said that there is still time for the biased and fundamentally Kashmir centric authorities to see the reason and agree upon two immediate demands viz. establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and early completion of Artificial Lake Project on River Tawi.
Among others who spoke on the occasion included President CCI, Rakesh Gupta, former Bar Association President, B.S Slathia, Professor Hari Om, former Member Public Service Commission, K.B Jandial (IAS), M.S Katoch, Senior Vice President CCI, Sham Langar, former CCI, President, Y.V Sharma, JKHBA, Vice President Pranav Kohli, JKHBA, General Secretary, A.P Singh, Joint Secretary Dipesh Pawar, Cashier Rahul Sharma, Young Lawyers Association, President Daljeet Singh, YLA Vice President Pradeep Majotra, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, President, Ved Prakash Sharma, Kamla Sharma, Dr C.L Gupta, Ravi Mahajan, Advocates Ravinder Sharma, Umesh Sharma and Tarun Sharma, J and K Pensioners Association, President, Mukand Lal Sharma and Association General Secretary, Madan Lal Abrol.
