Ladakh students resent high airfare

LEH: All Ladakh Student Joint Action Committee organised a peace march in Leh against the sky rocketing airfare to Leh on Thursday.

The peach march started from Main Gate Chokhang Vihara crossing through main market Leh culminated at Deputy Commissioner Office Leh.

The protesters carried placards, banners and posters appealing the State and Central Governments to reduce the high airfare.

President Ladakhi Students Association Chandigarh, Punchok Stobgyal said “Ladakh being remain cut off from rest of the country and the world for more than half of the year and  there is no other option left for the students studying outside Ladakh than to choose flight to come back home. The unaffordable and sky rocketing airfare is the only option for the parents, he added.

Later, the Committee submitted a memorandum to the ADC Rakesh Badyal, who assured that he will send the memorandum to Prime Minister’s office and also to the authority concerned. The committee also submitted memorandum to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Member Parliament Thupstan Chhewang, Cooperative Minister Tsering Dorjay and Chairman Congress Legislative Assembly Rigzin Jora.
