JAMMU: Former Minister for Higher Education and President Dogra Sadar Sabha, Gulchain Singh Charak on Wednesday stated that as if the un-thoughtful employment policy of State Government regarding the recruitment of youth in government services was not enough to shatter the aspirations of youth, another bombshell pertaining to the youth of this region is in the process of being dropped over the helpless Jammuites who are already struggling over the discrimination meted out to them on account others issues.
“The recent decision to introduce the two years B.Ed programme from the ensuing academic session 2015-16 in the Jammu University is another glaring example of discrimination against the youth of Jammu region,” Charak told reporters.
“The University of Kashmir, after calculating and analyzing the pros and cons of implementation of this programme, has decided not to adopt it from the ensuing session of 2015-16,” he mentioned.
“It is beyond comprehension that how the two sister universities of the State with the same Chancellor, same Pro-chancellor and same Department of Higher Education are adopting two different approaches regarding the B.Ed course in the State of J and K,” he said adding that it looks very strange that two different yardsticks are being used in the State to deal with the issue of implementation of two years B.Ed programme.
At present, Charak said, B.Ed programme is spread over duration of one year in both the universities. He added that it shall remain of the same duration of one year in the University of Kashmir but shall be of two years duration in University of Jammu.
Besides the two different durations of B.Ed course, he said, there will be two different yard sticks for the percentage of marks also for seeking admission to a course i.e. 45 per cent marks for University of Kashmir and 50 per cent in University of Jammu. This is another discriminatory treatment and in both the cases, the sufferers will be the youth of Jammu region, he said.
“It is being felt that a deep conspiracy is being rooted out to shift the youth of Jammu towards University of Kashmir by compelling them to take admission in the colleges of Kashmir University because of two reasons i.e. firstly their one precious year shall be saved and secondly they shall be eligible for admission with only 45 per cent marks at graduation level,” Charak asserted.
He appealed to the Governor (Chancellor), Chief Minister (Pro-Chancellor) and the Minister for Higher Education to immediately intervene and stop this un-thoughtful hasty move until a proper exercise is done in this regard.
