Army targets NE insurgents along Myanmar border
New Delhi:- In a pro-active strike, Army today carried out an operation along the India-Myanmar border inflicting “significant casualties” on two groups of Northeast insurgents, suspected to be involved in the killing of 18 soldiers in Manipur last week.
The early morning operation in Nagaland and Manipur along the border was carried out after the Army received “credible and specific” intelligence that these militants were planning more attacks in the Indian territory, Major General Ranveer Singh, Additional Director General Military Operations, said.
“We have inflicted significant casualties on them. As a consequence, threats to our civilian population and security forces were averted,” he told reporters here.
He said the Army was in communication with Myanmar authorities on the issue and looked forward to working with them to combat such terrorism.
