‘Govt should introduce terrace parking in Jammu’

JAMMU: A seminar on the theme topic ‘Seven Billion Dreams One Planet; Consume with Care” was organized by the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre as a part of celebration of World Environment Day in its auditorium at Channi Himmat, here on Friday.

Former Chief Engineer, Hydraulics, J and K, Inderjeet Singh was the Chief Guest while Chairman of Jammu Local Centre, Hem Chander Jerath presided over the function in which large number of engineers, environment lovers, academicians and members of the civil society participated.

Jerath presented the welcome address which was followed presentation of six papers embracing the theme topic by S.C Thukral, P.K Nanda, B.L Rawal, Vijay Kumar Sharma, Supinder Jeet Singh, and Parul Sharma.

The speakers spoke about the most vital issues pertaining to Jammu town which need attention of all the citizens and stakeholders in the government as well as NGOs to make it a town sustainable worthy in the times to come.

These important issues comprised of construction of more parking slots and introduction of concept of terrace parking in Jammu.

Inderjeet recalled the condition of Jammu 20 – 25 years back when number of vehicles and air conditioners were very less and ecology of the town was more stable than is now.

He requested all to use the concept of car pooling so that hydrocarbon emission in the atmosphere is reduced to save the environment and depleting ozone layer.

Honorary Secretary, Mohinder Singh conducted the proceedings of the seminar and also presented the vote of thanks.
