Handicraft Deptt constitutes inspection teams

SRINAGAR: To ensure implementation of J and K Tourist Trade Act 1978 in letter and spirit, Directorate of Handicrafts (Quality Control Wing) has constituted different Inspection teams to conduct surprise Inspection of Handicraft Dealers in the notified Tourist areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The field teams have been authorized to take necessary action against any dealer found violating the J and K Tourist Trade Act 1978.

Also the Handicraft dealers are as such advised to sell only genuine Handicraft products and refrain from sale of machine made items to the gullible tourists in the name of Kashmir art. It is impressed upon all Handicraft dealers to affix tags depicting price and composition on each item displayed for sale and also ensure that cash memos are issued to the tourists.

Also, all the Handicraft dealers are informed that as per the provisions of Tourist Trade Act 1978, it is mandatory for every dealer carrying on the business of handicrafts in the notified tourist areas of Jammu and Kashmir to get their business establishments registered with Directorate of Handicrafts, and those already registered to make upto date renewal of registration certificates issued to them.
