Introduce new trains for Delhi, Mumbai, Haridwar: CCI
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) on Tuesday held an interactive session with Anuj Prakash DRM Ferozepur Division, Northern Railway here at Chamber House.
During the interaction, President CCI Rakesh Gupta hailed the decision of Railway Ministry for introducing direct train between Kalka and Katra, which was a long pending demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
While projecting demands related to up-gradation of Railway services and allied edifice at Jammu Railway Station, Rakesh Gupta submitted a memorandum to the DRM Ferozepur Division.
The memorandum reads that Jammu Railway Station in the past had been declared to be developed as a Model Railway Station but nothing has been done in this direction. The CCI demanded that escalators should be installed at the Jammu Railway Station as it is almost 50 feet high from the parking area which is very inconvenient for the senior citizens, handicapped, sick and children. “Hygienic eating point, shopping area, multi-layer parking for tourists’ buses, cars, scooters, etc and hotels are the other facilities which are required for the convenience of people reaching railway station”, the CCI further demanded.
Rakesh also demanded second entry point to enter Jammu Railway Station as it will considerably contain the chaos on western side of the railway station.
The CCI also demanded that work on Jammu-Jalandhar double tracks and its electrification should also be expedited to make room for new trains for connecting Katra to other parts of India. CCI asked the DRM Ferozepur Division to add two more platforms at Jammu Railway Station for decongesting the existing infrastructure.
Expressing concern over the ever busy routes of Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the CCI demanded that at least two new Shatabadi Trains (Morning and Evening) between Jammu and Delhi, two daily trains on Mumbai route and one train for Ahmedabad via Jaipur should be introduced besides a new train between Jammu and Haridwar was also sought.
A foot over bridge from Platform No.3 to the circulation area was also demanded to decongest the main platform.
Rakesh said that despite being declared as Railway Division, Jammu has not seen any progress in this regard. He demanded that required infrastructure should immediately be developed to make this Railway Division fully functional.
Besides, a Trolley system on the pattern of Jammu Airport for the comfort of passengers and a Rail Engine Workshop was also demanded to cater to the needs of Jammu Railway Station. After giving a patient hearing, the DRM Ferozepur Division assured to look into all the genuine demands of the CCI.
