Brick-dust, lime ‘reception’ for HM
Public Works Department of the BJP partnered Mufti-led government found a quick solution to treat the chronic ‘pock marked’ Jammu roads on Wednesday to give a smooth passage to Home Minister Rajnath Singh from Circuit House to K. K Resorts, the venue for his address to the party workers.
In wee hours, all the ditches, small and deep, numbering hundreds, were filled up with brick dust procured from nearby heaps of waste building material dumped on the interior roads in Talab Tillo-Bohri area, and leveled to the surface of the three kilometer road to avert jerks to the VVIP motorcade. A quick broom, little bit of water sprinkled and pronounced lime marking on both sides of the road by Jammu Municipal Corporation amused the residents and elated them to have the feeling of being in some civil lines area.
Much to the fortune of PWD, the brick dust filling stayed in the ditches because of deserted road in the wake of Bandh call given by AIIMS Coordination Committee, an amalgam of nearly 91 organisations.
While the two government agencies performed their ‘yeomen’ contribution, BJP leaders were quite upset with people’s indifference and lack of interest in the VVIP visit. Some bike borne party workers, however, donned the venue site hours before arrival of Rajnath Singh and displayed party flags on closed shops, only to be removed minutes after the Home Minister made his way back to the Circuit House.
Security personnel were less stressed due to complete calm and no pedestrian or vehicular movement on the otherwise maddening roads. The presence of traffic cops was limited to the route earmarked for the VVIP entourage. Soon after the VVIP departure, most of them too hanged their boots for obvious reason of passenger and commercial carriage vehicles being off the road.
