66 medical camps to be set up enroute Amarnath yatraSrinagar:- Over five dozen medical camps would be set up by various agencies along the twin routes leading to the 3,880 metre high holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas during the annual yatra scheduled to start in July.

“A total of 66 Medical Camps will be set up by the State Health Department, Army, Central Paramilitary Forces, police and NGOs along the two routes – traditional 45-km Pahalgam-cave route in Anantnag district and shorter 16-km Baltal-cave route in Ganderbal district,” an official spokesman said.

He said the decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), P K Tripathi here.

The meeting, attended by senior officers of various security agencies and civil administration, was convened to review and rationalise the number of medical camps to be set up in the Yatra area by the Government, Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB, NGOs and others during the ensuing Yatra, scheduled to commence July 2, the spokesman said.

He said the state health department would set up five base hospitals at Baltal, Chandanwari, Sheshnag, Panjtarni and the Holy Cave with specialist doctors and facilities like Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, ECG machines, diagnostic kits, pulse oxymeter, Blood sugar and medical and surgical kits, Portable Oxygen Concentrators, Automated CPR machines, Defibrillators and Cardiac Monitors, Portable X-Ray and Ultrasound Machines.

The Health department would also set up 14 Emergency Aid centres and Nine Medical Aid Centres along the twin routes besides providing adequate Medicines, the spokesman said.

He said the Department will also provide health facilities at Neelgrath Helipad for the convenience of the Yatris. .
