ReT teachers protest, list demands

RAMBAN: The Rehbar-e-Taleems (RETs), temporary and regularised teachers, on Monday protested against their long pending demands under the banner of All J and K Rehbar-e Taleem Teachers Forum(AJKRTTF),District Unit, Ramban.
After a sit-in-Dharna at Tourist Bungalow, Ramban and a protest rally upto the District Administrative Complex, led by Gulzabir Daing and accompanied by Akhter Abbas Naik,President and General Secretary AJKRTTF respectively, they presented a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dr.Tahir Firdoz .
Their main grievance was non-payment of salaries to those ReTs-both temporary and regularised, who are in-charge of Mid Day Meal(MDM) Scheme in their respective schools and the Elementary Volunteer Teachers-temporary and regularised who have not received their salaries since April 2012 respectively.
Dr. Tahir assured the protestors that their grievances would be conveyed to the Divisional Commissioner, Education Commissioner, Director Education and other concerned officers at an earliest.
Their other grievances included non-regularisation of ReTs and temporary teachers of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya(KGBV) despite completion of mandatory five years of probationary period ; irrational carriage/freight for carrying MDM ration to remote hilly areas having no roads ; issuance of underweight rice bags for MDM ; issuance of less rice against the enhanced receipt ; purchasing of MDM ration and payment of carriage/freight by teachers from their pockets and non-implementation of detachment order in letter and spirit in Ramban District.
They also alleged that Cluster Resource Persons ,Zonal RPs,DRGs etc., are repeatedly posted at the same position in contravention of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan norms and also against the directions of the High Court.
They also demanded the retired employees not to be re-employed ; establishment of a legal cell in Education Department ; a clear transfer policy ; impartial posting of teachers , engagement of ReTs in exam duties and stringent action against officials having derogatory and discriminatory attitude towards ReTs.
They have threatened a vigorous agitation and resorting to serial hunger strikes in case their
demands are not considered within a week.
