JAMMU: MLA, Sat Sharma distributed basketball kits among national basketball players on the occasion of Sports Authority of India (SAI) day under the Day Boarding Scheme.
A total number of 19 basketball kits were distributed among the girls and boys who participated in nationals and were selected by SAI.
Lauding the efforts of SAI, who organised the function, Sat said that it is a great initiative taken up by them which is helping the budding players excel in sports. He said that sports have a significant role in the life of youth which helps him not only to keep his body physically fit but also relieves him from extra mental pressure as well.
He also asked the youth to stay away from social evils like menace of drugs which only will lead them to self destruction. He said Sports should be given equal importance as academics.
The MLA also stressed upon creation of more play grounds in Jammu West and in the City as well so that the youth should have facilities to excel in extracurricular activities.
Later, mementos were distributed to the Council members of SAI by the MLA.
Regional Director of SAI Sanjeev Sharma, Former National Coach Basket Ball Ramesh Kalley, General Secy. JK Olympics Association Ashutosh Sharma, S.M Bali President JKHA, Ranjit Singh Former Captain of HandBall Indian Team, BJP Leaders Ayodhya Gupta, Sanjay Sawhney, Sanjeev Sharma, Ankush and others were also present on the occasion.
