RBI conducts banking awareness camps

POONCH: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in association with J&K Bank Business Unit, Lassana, Surankote organised banking awareness camps in Government High School, Sanai, Surankote on Wednesday.
Highlighting the importance of organising banking awareness camps, Assistant General Manager RBI, R.K Sharma said that financial literacy is key to availing benefits of various banking services and government schemes. He explained in detail the various functions and services being rendered by the banks and asked the participants to avail these facilities to get empowered financially. He said that having a bank account is the first step towards financial empowerment and as such all the people should open account with the banks for which the procedure has been made so simple that within no time and without any difficulty the account can be opened now in the banks.
While addressing the gathering Lead District Manager Poonch, M. Shafi Ayaz informed about the features and benefits available under newly launched Social Security Schemes Pradhan Mantri Surekhsha Bima Yojana (accidental insurance) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (life insurance). He said that these schemes have been designed to provide security cover to poor population with a meager insurance of premium.
FLCC Poonch, S. Anmol Singh made the participants aware of various banking products with special mention of Child Care Deposit Scheme, Mehandi Deposit Scheme and Education Loan. Branch Head JK Bank B/U Lassana informed on the occasion that they will open the bank accounts of all the students who do not have any bank account, in the school itself.
Under the guidance of District Development Commissioner, M H Malik, a vigorous financial literacy campaign is being run by various financial institutions in the district.
Quiz sessions were arranged in both schools in which participating students were awarded small prizes. Moreover, writing pens were distributed among all the students who attended these camps.
