Semis line up drawn as Chandigarh wins in shootouts

JAMMU: With a 2-0 win against Bihar in penalty shootouts on Thursday the technically sound side of Chandigarh Olympic Association qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Fifth Hockey India Sub Junior Men National (Division-B) Championship at KK Hakku Stadium, here.
With Chandigarh win, semifinals position has been cleared in this competition. Other three teams making it to the last four stages are Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Madhya Pradesh and Patiala.
Now, in the knock-out stages of the semifinals, Chandigarh shall face Dadra and Nagar Haveli while Madhya Pradesh shall take on Patiala on 16th May.
Earlier, the penalty shootouts were necessitated after Chandigarh Olympic Association and Bihar finished equal in group-D. The shootout started with equal pressure coming in from both the sides where both the teams tried creating chances in the opponent’s striking area.
But, it was Chandigarh’s Maninder Singh and Prabhjeet Singh who managed to find the goal box. Harshdeep Singh missed the target.
On the other hand, all the four men, came forward for the penalties, Anand Kumar, E Munda, Abhay Kumar and Vinay Exas either hit out of the goal
or their attempts were foiled by the alter guard at the net.
SCHEDULE: Semifinals: Dadra and Nagar Haveli shall take on Chandigarh Olympic Association at 3:00 PM; Madhya Pradesh to meet Patiala at 4:45 PM on Friday.
