Demand in RS for separate HC for TelanganaNew Delhi:-A demand for a separate High Court for the newly-created Telangana state was raised in Rajya Sabha, prompting the government to say that the process will be expedited.

The issue was raised by TRS Keshava Rao who said every state must have a High Court of its own.

“Now every state must have a High Court of its own. So says the Act. Everybody agrees to it. But nothing has come out so far. The Minister had intervened two times on the floor of this House assuring us that they would give us a High Court,” he said.

Rao said the new situation that has arisen is not because of a verdict “but because of the comments from the Chief Justice of the High Court four days back that the Act was not clear about the creation of separate High Court for Telangana and that the Act said only that there could be separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh”.

He said the government should know that the Act itself provides for it.

“It says that the High Court will come into existence with the notification of the President. Let the government notify it. It is a serious issue,” Rao added.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the Law Minister, during a discussion on working of his ministry, stated clearly that government was serious about the issue.

Efforts were on to expedite the process, he said.

Jesudasu Seelam (Congress) said he would like to support the implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act in toto. He also asked the government to grant the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

Jairam Ramesh of Congress associated himself with the issue.

In his Zero Hour mention, Satyanarayan Jatiya (BJP) talked about the need for taking measures for maintaining national unity and integration.

Jatiya said he wanted to make his full statement in Sanskrit, but could not do so due to lack of translation system. He made the statement in Sanskrit and Hindi
