Buddha Purnima celebrated with fervour

LEH: People of Leh on Monday celebrated 2559th Buddha Purnima, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, with joy and fervour.
Hundreds including school children, monks and nuns gathered at Leh Chokang, a Buddhist temple, from where they proceeded through different ways to Tsemo Gonpa, a Buddhist monastery here.
The procession exhibited the twelve great deeds of Buddha presented by students of various schools followed by the chanting of Buddhist prayer by the monks of Liker monastery.
The procession culminated at the historic Leh Polo Ground with a cultural programme. Students showcased the life of Buddha and his teachings through skit, play, religious songs and dances. Well known scholars like Dr Lobzang Tsewang, Ladakhi translator of the Dalai Lama, Geshe Konchok Namgail President of Ladakh Gonpa Association, etc also highlighted and briefed the life and teachings of Buddha. The programme was organised by the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Leh and renowned scholar of Ladakh, Tashi Rabgais was the Chief Guest.
Tsewang Thinless President LBA stressed upon people to adopt the teachings of Lord Buddha in their life. “Pledge not to get involve in acts of corruption”, he advised the people.
Chief Guest Tashi Rabgais expressed happiness on the participation of people from other religions including Christians, Muslims and Hindus. He said that this is a positive sign showcasing communal harmony and brotherhood prevailing in the region. He also stressed on the taking a cue from the life and teachings of Lord Buddha to lead a contented life.
Minister for Cooperative, Tsering Dorjay, Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh, Rigzin Spalbar, Deputy Commissioner, Saugat Biswas, SSP Dr. Sunil Gupta and representatives from different religious and political organisations were also present.
