Maintain constant vigil along LOC, IB: DGP

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police has asked the police to maintain constant vigil along the Line of Control (LOC) and International Border (IB) to check the infiltration.
“In regards to cross border activities the police must maintain a constant vigil along the LOC and the IB and defeat nefarious designs of enemies to infiltrate into our areas and disturb the peace” DGP JK Police K Rajendra Kumar said.
He asked for better preparations to handle the situations proportionately.
The DGP also stressed for behavioral changes in policing at grass root level, and asked for adopting a humane approach to gain people’s confidence.
He was addressing a mega police durbar at Police Auditorium Gulshan Ground Jammu last evening.
“Behavioral change in policing at police station level is vital to gain public confidence  and cooperation, which is a great factor for people friendly force” the DGP said.
He said that community policing and humane approach would bring visible changes in the working of police and strengthen police-public relations.
“Public service is the prime focus area of JKP and zero tolerance on human rights violation has strengthened their relations with the public, which is yielding good dividends on law and order scenario in the state,” he said.
Cautioning the police against use of disproportionate force, DGP asked for careful handling of law and order situations and said that use of lethal weapons should be avoided.
He said that safety and security of the people was “our prime concern, besides safeguarding integrity of the nation”.
The DGP said that prompt disposal of public complaints and registration of FIRs followed by meticulous and prompt investigation would improve the working of JKP, besides changing people’s perception about the police.
He said that use of scientific aids during investigation have proved fruitful in completing the cases on merits.
Emphasizing on sustained fight against corruption and drug trafficking, Rajendra asked the jawans and officers to brace themselves against this twin menace.
He said that corruption is the root cause of all evils and it is our prime responsibility to make the society corruption free.
He also spoke about the growing challenge to the society from land mafia and said that police has to discharge its responsibility in dealing with the mafia which has bearing on law and order situation. (PTI)
