JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar on Thursday said that JKP would dedicate year 2015 to the people of the State and would explore new areas to improve police public relations at the grass root level.
He asked the officers to improve conduct of the force at all levels towards the people of the State.
Rajendra was addressing a high level meeting of senior police officers at a meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by IGP, Kashmir Zone, range Deputy Inspectors General and District Superintendents of Police of the State through video conference. The meeting was arranged on the eve of New Year, aimed to discuss the achievements of JKP on different fronts of policing and to set priorities for the year 2015.
Elaborating the achievements of 2014, the DGP said, the force had to meet a daunting and gigantic task of maintaining peace and security during the Parliament and Legislative Assembly Elections. He said elections spread over a period of four months were a great challenge which the force met with grit, fortitude and distinction. He said security of contesting candidates and high profile political personalities was ensured, putting in place effective measures throughout the State.
The DGP complemented all ranks of the force for their performance during the year gone by; saying that good turnout in the Assembly Elections makes us believe that a sense of security has been put in the minds of people.
Rajendra appreciated the courage and efforts exhibited by the jawans and officers during the devastating flood which struck the State in the month of September, 2014. He said, the rescue and relief operations undertaken by the force have been appreciated by the people.
Emphasising upon the officers to set new goals of public service for the year 2015, the DGP said that our thrust areas should be to make a drug and terror free society and promote police relations by improving the behavior of men in khaki towards the people. He said that we have to deliver better in the coming days and strengthen our relations with the public. People have pinned great expectations with JKP and it should be our priority to come up to their expectations. Safety of our citizens and drive against crimes should be given proper focus and elements indulging in trade of illicit drugs should be booked and brought to justice.
Rajendra reiterated that our commitment of zero casualties during maintenance of law and order, and humane behaviour towards law abiding citizens is our motive. He asked the senior officers to visit police stations and take stock of the people’s grievances and their disposal. Community policing and Civic Action Programmes, promoting sports and culture activities, are the methods to improve our relations with the public, he added.
The DGP stressed upon the officers to ensure welfare of martyr’s families and retired personnel. He said that families of martyrs should be given passionate hearing and their grievances redressed. Improvements in all areas of policing including regular interactions with the subordinates, formal inspections of police stations and other units, frequent crime meetings and accountability in disposal of crime cases, besides adoption of latest techniques in policing, are the issues which need to be given proper attention, the DGP said.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADsGP, S.P Vaid, V.K Singh and Dilbag Singh, IsGP, A.K Choudhary, H.K Lohia, Deepak Kumar, S.J.M Geelani, M.S Salaria, Rajesh Kumar, Shyam Lal, S.A Watali, M.A Ganai and J.P Singh, DIsGP, S.A Beig and V.S Samyal besides other senior officers.
