Dear Editor,
Awarding the Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a great statesman and democrat, will remain yet another act of tokenism if the present BJP and its government continue to work against the legacy of the former PM who valued India’s unity in its diversity. Belying all apprehensions, Vajpayee could win the trust, respect and admiration of all, including the critics of his party, during his tenure as Prime Minister. Arrogant, negatively aggressive, provocative and divisive acts of the present BJP and its allies, spreading hate, mistrust and fear in society, that we have seen in last six months of the NDA regime, have to be checked if we wish to live in the India of Vajpayee’s dreams and not in a strife-torn country.
