JAMMU: Jammu Tourism Action Committee (JTAC) welcomed the historical change in the recently held J and K Assembly elections.
Addressing a meeting, Inderjeet Khajuria, Convener JTAC welcomed and congratulated the newly elected members for Legislative Assembly of J and K State especially the members from Jammu province, who have been voted to power by the historic highest turnout of voters.
Expressing concern about Jammu’s tourism, which is already on ventilator due to State Government’s anti-Jammu stance including rail-link extension to Katra, Khajuria reposed confidence in the newly elected legislators and expressed faith that they will ensure completion of ongoing tourism related projects as early as possible to make Jammu as an independent tourist destination besides incorporating new ventures.
The projects include artificial lake project on Tawi, Mubarak Mandi-Bahu Fort ropeway project, completion of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, multistoried shopping complex including Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), parking at General Bus Stand, development of Manda Deer Park Sanctuary into national park of international fame, water and amusement park and promotion of water games at Bhour Camp, Jammu, development and maintenance of Hari Singh Park at the right bank of Tawi adjoining lake project, conservation and development of wet lands at Mansar and Surinsar, besides conservation of Gharana Bird Sanctuary, development of Ambaran Buddhist Monarch Akhnoor, development of Sohni-Mahiwal Love Point at Hamirpur, promotion of border tourism with opening of Jammu Sialkot Border with Ceremonial Parade at Suchetgarh, extension and completion of Jammu Airport, introduction of monorail project in Jammu city to minimise traffic congestion and proper publicity of Bahu Fort aquarium which are still awaiting completion and proper attention of the state government, besides so many other projects can further be included as there is no dearth of scenic places of aesthetic importance in Jammu province.
To ensure timely completion of ongoing tourism related projects, Khajuria suggested formation of steering committee headed by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu to monitor the progress with all concerned heads of departments as members and enough participation of stakeholders in the said committee.
