Politics defined
Dear Editor,
The word politics is derived from the greek word “Politikos” meaning (of, for, or relating to citizens). The great philosopher Aristotle stated the bare truth when he said centuries ago that man is a “political animal”. It is a practice and thoery of influencing other people on a global, civic or individual level.More narrowly, it refers to acheiveing and exercising position of governance organised control over a human community, particularly a state. Furthermore politics is the study or practice of distribution of power and resources within a given community (a hierarchically organised population)as well as interelation ship between communities. A variety of methods are employed in politics, which includes promoting one’s own political veiw, negotiations with other political subjects, making laws, and exercising force, including warfare against adversaries. Politics is exercised on a wide range of social levels, from clans and tribes of traditional societies, through modern local government’s, companies and institutions up to sovereign states,to the international level. A political system is a framework which defines acceptable political methods within a given society. A perfect society exists nowhere on earth, and it is of no wonder that both politics and politicians continue to flourish, despite all their flaws and foibles. At last “Politics are almost as exiting as war and quite dangerous. In war you can only be killed once but in politics many times”
