JAMMU: Organised by the J and K Athletics Association, the 12th State Athletics Championship got underway at BSF Stadium, Paloura, here on Monday. Around 350 athletes are taking part in this four-day competition.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by President of the J and K Olympic Association (JKOA), Rangil Singh.
Among others present were former Minister, Rangil Singh, Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Ravinder Singh, S.S Gill, Vikas Gupta, Sharat Singh, Shamsher Singh, Samarjit Singh, Sheikh Tulal, Sarabjit Singh, Nirmal Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Baljinder Singh and Shamus-ud-Din.
Earlier, the opening day witnessed two track events of 100 meters and 1500 meters.
The Results: 100 mts: Jai Kumr, Ist; Krishan, 2nd and Karnial Singh, 3rd. 1500 mts: Muzaffar Maqbool, Ist; Naresh Kumar, 2nd and Zaffar Ali, 3rd.
