New Delhi: The 37th Sub-junior National Volleyball Championships will be held here from December 26-31.
The tournament, which is being held at an open ground at Ajmal Khan Park at Karol Bagh, will be competed by 28 boys’ and 25 girls’ teams from across the country.
The championships is being organised by Panthers Sports Society, Delhi under the aegis of Delhi Volleyball Association and Volleyball Federation of India.

Organsing Committee Chairman Hari Om Pandey rued that the tournament is being held at an open ground as there were no volleyball facilities in any of the indoor stadiums in the city.

“It is unfortunate that currently there are no volleyball courts in any of the indoor stadiums in Delhi. They were there before the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Since, volleyball was not there in the CWG, the volleyball courts have been removed and no such facilities are in Delhi since then,” Pandey, who is a BJP Lok Sabha member from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, said at a press conference today.

“Normally, National Championships should have held in a closed area in an indoor stadium. We have approached the Sports Authority of India and even New Delhi Municipal Corporation to give us facilities under them to host the event in a proper stadium but they expressed their inability to do that,” he added.

Interestingly, SAI is also fielding a team in both boys and girls sections.
