Be safe, girls
Dear Editor,
This has reference to the heinous crime of the rape of a young girl by a taxi driver. Even at the risk of earning the wrath of women activists, one must say that the women themselves are no less to blame for incidents like this. That the victim ventured to travel all alone in a taxi at midnight is nothing short of a self -created trouble. She wasn’t even alert to ensure the taxi follows the right route, but fell asleep in the cab or perhaps fell unconscious as she had reportedly gone to a pub obviously for drinks before hiring the taxi.
It is our bounden duty to advise and guide our young daughters. Avoiding late night outings, especially if unescorted, and wearing the right dress would be in the interest of their own safety. Police cannot be everywhere to protect them.
