Pregnant woman dies in JK hospital; govt orders probe

Kishtwar: A pregnant woman died at the district hospital here allegedly due medical negligence following which the Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

Javed Ahmad Khan, District Commissioner of Kishtwar, said a magisterial probe has been ordered into the death of the pregnant woman due to alleged negligence by doctors at Kishtwar district hospital.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Chatroo, Kartar Singh has been appointed as inquiry officer even as the district commissioner recommended the transfer of erring doctors from the hospital.

The woman identified as Trishla Devi died while being operated after she developed labour pain at the hospital yesterday following which her relatives lodged a strong protest opposite the district commissioner’s office and blocked the main road for more than six hours.

The relatives cried of negligence by doctors and demanded that an FIR be registered against the erring doctors.

On being assured by the commissioner, they lifted the dharna.

Postmortem is being conducted by a team of doctors.

According to Dr Parvez Iqbal Wani, Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, all possible efforts were taken by the doctors to save her life but she could not survive and died due to two cardiac arrests.

There was no negligence on the part of the doctors attending the patient, he said.
