POONCH : Thieves broke into two Gurdwaras in Poonch town and decamped with lakhs of rupees while they made a futile attempt to target ancient Shiv Mandir near Suthra Bawli during the intervening night of 11/12th December, 2014.
According to report Head Granthi Sabar Singh on reaching reached Gurdwara Singh Sabha Poonch in the morning, he found the locks of main gate and Gurdwara door broken. When he entered the Gudwara hall he found the locks of chest (Golak) also broken and it was empty. Similarly the locks of Gurdwara Khalsa Chowk were also broken and chests emptied. It is a matter of surprise that the thieves escaped the notice of J and K Bank Guard in front of Gurdwara gate.
On receipt of complaint, the SHO Poonch Rakesh Akram visited both the Gurdwaras and collected the available evidence from the spots. He also visited the ancient Shiv Mandir where the thieves broke locks but could not commit the theft.
Meanwhile a deputation of Gurdwara Committee including President Narinder Singh, met the SSP Poonch J. S Johar and expressed their concern over the growing number of thefts in the town for the past some time due to which panic has gripped the town. They said that a few days back thieves struck at the house of one Janak Singh son of Sant Singh in Mohalla Sarain and decamped with cash and gold for which FIR 457/14 was registered but there is no clue so far. They demanded that patrolling parties should be deputed to ensure safety and security.
The SSP gave a patient hearing and said that police is quite alive to the problem and has rounded off some youths and inquiry is in progress. He further said that he has already deputed police in civil dress and is critically watching the movements. He assured that police will soon lay its hands on the culprits.
