GGM Science College bags overall trophy in weightlifting

JAMMU: The GGM Science College lifted the overall championship trophy in the inter-college men’s weightlifting competition, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Gulshan Ground, J and K Police Stadium, here on Monday.
Science College lifters dominated the event in seven different weight categories securing highest 31 points. The GDC Kathua was far behind on points tally with nine points to remain second while third place went to Post Graduate (PG) Departments.
The results: 56 kg: Onkar Singh, GGM, Ist; Vishal Sharma, GDC Kathua, 2nd and Sunil Charak, GDC R S Pura, 3rd. 62 kg: Abinash Banotra, GGM, Ist; Manudaman Singh, GGM 2nd and Mohd Mushtaq, GDC RS Pura, 3rd. 69 kg: Lalu Din, GDC Kathua, Ist; Zakir Hussain, PG, 2nd and Shubam Kohli, Commerce College, 3rd. 77 kg: Gaurav Sumbria, GGM, Ist; Maheep Singh, Commerce College, 2nd and Ameer Rashid, GDC Kathua, 3rd. 85 kg: Akshadev Singh, GGM, Ist; Hardeep Singh, Commerce College, 2nd and Sandeep Sandhu, GDC Kathua, 3rd. 94 kg: Rahul Sabwaral, GGM, Ist; Rashid Malik, GDC Rajouri, 2nd and Deepak Choudhary, GDC Kathua, 3rd. 105 kg: Aman Khajuria, PG, Ist and Zaffar-ul-Islam, GGM, 3rd.
BOXING: Boxers from Government MAM College dominated in the preliminary rounds to make to the semifinals stages in most of the weight categories of the two-day inter-college men’s competition that started today at Gulshan Ground, Police Stadium, here. Earlier, boxers underwent tough contests in the first and second rounds in various weight groups. The semifinals and finals shall be played tomorrow afternoon.
KABADDI: The GGM Science College and Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor won their respective matches to move into the next round of the inter-college men’s kabaddi tournament on the campus ground today.
While Science College outplayed GDC Hiranagar by a margin of 13 points, GDC Akhnoor trounced GDC Rajouri by 24 points.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising Anil Sharma, Ankush Gupta, Keshav Singh, Harpreet Singh, Ankush Sharma and Gagan Kumar.
