POONCH: Legal Metrology Poonch under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Kewal Krishan conducted surprise raids in Mendhar and border areas of Poonch.
On the basis of inputs from a complainant, the team checked the weight of LPG cylinders at the delivery site and it was found that the weight of the cylinders were lesser in quantity ranging from 500g to 900g.
The Inspector Legal Metrology, Pritam Singh booked the salesman, delivery man including manager of the gas agency and seized three cylinders. As a part of the complaint, the team asked the salesman to produce verified weighing scale which is mandatory on part of LPG dealer for home and point delivery.
Advising the consumers to complain to the department whenever they found any discrepancies in the quantity of LPG, the team said clearing doubts on weight of LPG is the prime responsibility of delivery man and management as well. The Assistant Controller emphasised that consumers should insist on weighing the properly sealed cylinder before accepting it and said in case of any doubt they are at every liberty to refuse and demand from the deliveryman to bring another LPG cylinder.
Following submission of detailed offence report by the inspector, the Assistant Controller served a legal notice to the concerned agency. The management of the agency while confessing its lapses pleaded the department for composition of the case. The Assistant Controller, on written assurance from the agency that it will not repeat such offence in future, imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 and directed the agency to submit roster of delivery of gas to far flung areas of the district so as to enable the department to keep a hawk’s eye on its activities.
