Public Interest Litigation on Cable Television: Divison Bench directs Centre to file response

JAMMU: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by one Paras Gupta regarding various indecent, vulgar, inappropriate, untrue etc. advertisements and programmes which are running on various TV channels and which are not in uniformity with the prescribed Advertising Code and the Programme Code as envisaged under the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the rules framed there under.
A Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M.M Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan after hearing both the sides observed that respondent have already filed reply.
Division Bench further observed that counsel for the PIL insisted that despite the directions issued by respondent to various channels, the advertisement continues unabated. Counsel for the petitioner requested for some time to place on record any material/additional affidavit showing that objectionable advertisement continues its telecast. Needful be done within four weeks and also directed Union of India shall also file response to the writ petition. JNF
