Annual sports week gets underway

JAMMU: Finals positions cleared in the disciplines of cricket, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, carom and chess of the ongoing annual sports and activities week, organised at Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk, here.
The first semifinal in the cricket tournament was won by Automobile Engineering Department defeating Mechanical Engineering Department by 23 runs while Computer Engineering Department defeated Civil Engineering Department by four wickets in second semifinal.
Mechanical Engineering Department outplayed Automobile Engineering Department by 2-0 (25-14, 25-19) while Architecture Engineering Department defeated Electrical Engineering Department by 2-0 (25-12, 25-20) in the first and second semifinal of volleyball tournament respectively.
The first semifinal of table tennis was won by Asad Sharma from Electrical Engineering Department defeating Rythem by 2-0 while in second semifinal Vansh Mahajan from Mechanical Engineering Department beat Himmat Singh of I and C Department by 2-1.
Mohit Sharma of Electrical Engineering Department trounced Adarsh Kumar from Automobile Engineering Department by 2-0 (11-5, 11-6) in badminton’s first semifinal while Vishal Verma from Civil Engineering Department outplated Himmat Singh from I and C Department by 2-0 (11-7, 11-4) in second semifinal.
Kartik and Akash of Automobile Engineering defeated Abhay and Baljeet of Mechanical Engineering Department by 2-0 and Ishan Raina and Zahid Ali from Computer Engineering Department lost to Tariq and Mukesh of Civil Engineering department by 2-1 in first and second semifinal of carom respectively.
In Chess, Rajat Sharma of Electrical Department defeated Guneet Singh from Civil Engineering Department in first semifinal while second semifinal was won by Inderdeep from Automobile Department beating Ankush from Mechanical Engineering Department.
Earlier, 23 students from various department participated in the poetry competition which was judged by Sakshi Kapai, Ajay Thapa and Neena Gupta. First prize was won by Akib Rashid from Electrical Department, Muddasar Feroz of Computer Engineering Department bagged second while third prize went to Bisma Wani from Mechanical Engineering Department.
