Drugs and Food Control Organisation oversees disposal of flood affected beverages

JAMMU: The enforcement staff of Drugs and Food Control (D and FC) Organisation on Friday carried out surprise visit of M/s Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages, Gangyal here. During the visit a huge quantity of beverages and packaged drinking water (7978 cases of beverages and package drinking water amounting to Rs.50 lakh approximately) was found dumped inside the premises / go-down of the factory.
Enforcement Staff was informed that the said Unit had recalled the unconsumed stocks of the said articles from flood affected areas of Kashmir Valley as the recalled articles had remained in contact with flood waters and therefore rendered unfit for human consumption. Authorized Signatory of the Company, R.A Yadav was instructed to carry out procedure for disposal of these recalled articles strictly as per Standard Operating Procedure devised by the Company under the supervision of empowered authorities under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The exercise was conducted under the active supervision of Designated Officer Madan Mangotra along with a team of Food Safety Officers.
D and FC organisation appealed to general public and stakeholders that no article of food that remained touched with flood waters should be put to sale, exhibited for sale or stocked by the Food Business Operators.
Further the information of such product recalls should be brought in to the notice of local authorities empowered under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. On the side lines of above exercise another team of Enforcement Officers seized 287 liters of Sofit Soya Milk which was declared misbranded by the Food Analyst. “Legal action as contemplated under law shall follow against the defaulting firm in due course of time”, a spokesman of D and FC said.
