RAJOURI/JAMMU: A 20-year-old girl studying in BA Part-II was on Thursday stabbed to death by her alleged lover, on Jammu-Poonch National highway in Chingus area of Rajouri district.
The accused, identified as Ashish Kumar (25), resident of Muradpur, Rajouri, presently pursuing MSc degree at Dehradun, stabbed Deepika in a spur of moment as they both were travelling in a mini bus.
“The eyewitnesses said that both were sitting in the mini-bus and the boy suddenly stabbed the girl in her chest,” police said, adding that preliminary investigations have revealed that the two had a love affair.
“The girl bled to death on the spot”, an eye witness told STATE TIMES adding that the police reached immediately after getting the information. The assailant tried to flee and in the process consumed some poisonous substance. However, the passengers pounced and handed him over to the police. He was immediately rushed to District Hospital Rajouri where his condition deteriorated. The boy, son of a school teacher, was later in the late evening referred to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu.
Hailing from Kallar, her father Mukesh, an Ex-service man and villagers immediately reached the spot and resorted to protests demanding severe punishment for the accused. They kept the body of the girl on the road and blocked traffic on the National Highway. Senior police officers from Rajouri reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
Later the police shifted her body to the District Hospital Rajouri for post mortem.
