RTI seminar held at Women’s College Baramulla

BARAMULLA: A daylong seminar on Right to Information (RTI) was organised in collaboration with NSS, University of Kashmir at Government Women’s College Baramulla on Friday. Chief Information Commissioner (J and K) G. R. Sofi was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
During the seminar the participants were made aware about the RTI Act being implemented in the state. The speakers deliberated upon the various aspects of RTI act and said that the act makes the governance of the administration transparent and help in establishment of good Governance.
While deliberating on the topic, Chief Information Commissioner said that RTI is based on the agenda that every person has access to each and every bit of information. He said that RTI is an extension of the right to Freedom of speech to expression in our constitution. The Chief Commissioner also deliberated upon the role of women folk in the information sector, by discussing the role of a journalists and novelists Arundhati Roy. He further said that RTI Act is aimed at overall welfare of the people. He stressed upon the students for striving, for educating other people about RTI so that they are fully aware about this beneficial Act.
Among others State Information Commissioner Er. Nazir Ahmad, Principal Women’s College Baramulla Dr. Maqsooda Khan, Coordinator Distance Education Kashmir University Dr. Neelofar, ADDC Baramulla, R. K Bhat besides other dignitaries and students attended the seminar.
