DySP Crime Branch arrested

JAMMU: As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha are resolute and determined to combat corruption head on, the shameful act of a DySP in the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police being caught red handed for accepting and demanding bribe from a property dealer, is a real challenge for the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take it to the logical conclusion for exemplary punishment as per law, especially in view of the crime having been committed by the custodian of the law.
The Anti Corruption Bureau on Friday evening caught DySP Varinder Singh, presently posted in Crime Branch, red handed while demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant.
Sources informed that the ACB has trapped the DySP after scrutinizing his mobile recordings wherein he was heard demanding bribe reportedly on many occasions.

DySP Varinder Singh, a 1995 batch Sub Inspector, earlier served at many important positions including SDPO Domana, SDPO Bari Brahamana besides SHO at vital police stations. There are many cases and complaints, which are lying unattended and uninvestigated in the Crime Branch for years for the obvious reasons. There is no concrete result on many complaints even after the decades.
A few years ago, someone had even recorded the voice of another DySP for demanding and accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe during his posting in the executive police. An anonymous caller told STATE TIMES that he has still that recording with him.
The accused DySP was taken to ACB office after the trap and was being grilled. Senior police officers were also tight-lipped over the matter and no statement was issued by the ACB till the filing of the report.
Sources in ACB said that there are many complaints of corruption against the police personnel.
Here it is relevant to mention that a corrupt SHO posted in Jammu district recently got a golden coin with 10 Kg apple, 2 Kg sweets and one kg Sund, to oblige a corrupt businessman on whose pay roll he is, as Diwali gift. Many such police officers are still on the pay-roll of criminals and Anti Corruption Bureau needs to be more vigilant on this.
