Two HM terrorists killed in Anantnag; IED recovered in Srinagar

Srinagar: Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district on Tuesday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Poshkreeri area of Anantnag district following information about presence of terrorists there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened firing at the security forces who retaliated.
“Killed terrorists identified as Danish Bhat @ Kokab Duree & Basharat Nabi, both affiliated with proscribed terror outfit HM. Both were involved in killing of one TA soldier Saleem on 9 April 2021 & killing of two civilians on 29 May 2021 in Jablipora,” Additional DGP, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar tweeted.
As per the police records, both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and active since year 2019. They had a history of terror crime cases including attacks on police and security forces besides civilian atrocities. They were also involved in martyrdom of two Territorial Army personnel, Manzoor Ahmad at Sadoora Anantnag on June 6, 2019 and Mohammad Saleem at Bijbehara on April 9, 2021. Moreover, they were also involved in killing of 02 civilians May 29, 2021 in Jablipora Bijbehara area.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into custody for further investigation. Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar, police said.
The IED, weighing 30-35 kilograms, was recovered from an orchard after the police and the Army launched a search operation following a specific information, a police spokesman said. He said a bomb disposal squad was at the spot to destroy the explosive device.
