KATHUA: District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal convened general meeting for conduct of elections and reviewed the arrangements in place for various election related events and outlining the functioning of various cells, departments, teams and squads. All events related to conduct of forthcoming Legislative Assembly elections were discussed.
Meeting was attended by ADC Prasanna Ramaswamy, SSP Kathua, Pawan Parihar, ADDC N.S Bali, Chief Engineer NHPC, SSP Sanjeev Khajuria Principal PTS, Returning Officers of Bani, Basohli Billawar, Kathua and Hiranagar, Superintending Engineers and ExEns of all departments, district officers, sector and zonal officers, SDMs, Project Officers, Tehsildars, BDOs, CDPOs, ZEOs, Executive Officers of Municipal Committees, SDPOs, SHOs and other police officers, AROs, District Officers, Flying Squads, Nodal Officer of Model Code of Conduct, Expenditure Monitoring, Manpower, EVM management, Complaint Cell, Media Cell, MCMC representatives, Heads of Banks and all other officers.
The DEO reviewed the security arrangements for election events, awareness programmes, and issued instructions for coordination between election authorities and police for detailed planning of security, transport, air sorties, EVM management. He also explained the training schedule, deployment of training observers, assessment and on-hand training. Air sorties for 23 polling stations of Bani were also finalised in the meeting.
Strict instructions were issued for flying squads, surveillance teams and video teams to keep vigil on code violations, expenditures and political activities in the district
Meanwhile a District Election Cell has been established with various cells including DEO Office, DyDEO officer, MCMC Cell, MCC Cell, EEM Cell, Complaint cell, SVEEP Desk, Election Office, Single Window, Information Cell and other officers. The District Cell was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner in presence of district officers and nodal officers.
DEO , Kathua also briefed media persons regarding District Election Plan ,as the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced with the pronouncement of election dates by Election Commission of India.
Dr Shahid Iqbal informed the media persons that a well equipped District Election Cell has been established which is now functional. He disclosed that office of District Election Officer and the designated Nodal Officers for Media, MCMC, MCC, Expenditure Monitoring will function under one roof at new building of District Employment and Counselling Centre behind DC office complex.
A similar meeting was held by DEO Udhmapur to review election preparedness.
Meanwhile ADDC Kishtwar A.S Chib held a detailed review meeting regarding election preparedness and management with political parties and district officers concerned with conducting the elections.
