Two acquitted in NDPS case

JAMMU: Second Additional Sessions Judge Jammu M.K Sharma on Monday acquitted Tarun Gupta and Karnail Singh in NDPS case on account of insufficient investigation. Justice Sharma observed that majority of the cases under NDPS Act are failing in the Courts primarily because of improper investigation and the failure of the senior police officers to monitor the investigation as required under Police Rules. Justice Sharma directed SSP Jammu to take steps to ensure meaningful and proper investigation of cases so as to advance the cause of justice.
According to the case, on 7th April 2010 police recovered 300 grams of Charas from accused Tarun Kumar and 1.8 Kg of Charas from the possession of co-accused, Karnail Singh and offence under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Janipur. On conclusion of the investigation, this police report for the commission of offence under Section 8/20 NDPS Act was filed in the Court. JNF
