Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday reported 224 fresh COVID-19 cases that pushed its infection tally to 4,56,829, officials said.
Of the new cases, 112 each were reported from the Jammu division and the Kashmir valley, they said.
The death toll remained unchanged at 4,758.
There are 967 active COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir. So far, 4,51,104 people have recovered from the viral disease, the officials said.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the rising cases of covid-19, Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta has appealed the people of Jammu and Kashmir to take the necessary precautions and be safe. He observed that it is better to take preventive measures than taking risk of getting affected by the disease.
Dr Mehta impressed that it is time to renew our efforts to contain this contagious virus from spreading again. He stated that there is a little surge in covid positive cases but the mortality fortunately very low.
Under these circumstances he enjoined upon all to enforce mandatory SoPs like wearing of face masks, use of hand sanitisers etc. He advised them to take precautions and be careful in public places for the general good of all of them.
The Chief Secretary also encouraged the people to take the precautionary dose whoever is eligible. He made out that it is the mass vaccination that has saved human lives last time and this time again people should show prudence by taking the free booster doses for their safety and well being.
Dr Mehta also directed the concerned to commence an IEC campaign and create awareness among masses. He asked them to be vigilant and ensure that the virus do not spread uncontrollably. He asked them to monitor the situation constantly and take measures simultaneously.
He also showed confidence that last time our performance was efficient as we didn’t let the situation to take an ugly turn. He exuded hope that this time we together would better that record by playing our respective roles by being responsible and careful.
Covid: 13 new cases in Ladakh
According to report from Leh, Ladakh has reported 13 fresh Covid cases that pushed the infection tally to 28,615, officials said.
All the new cases were recorded in Leh, they said
So far, 228 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 168 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to officials.
The number of active cases stands at 61 — all in Leh, they said.
A total of 639 sample reports were tested in Ladakh of which 579 in Leh and 46 in Kargil were found to be negative, officials said.
Eleven people were discharged from hospital in Leh, taking the overall recoveries to 28,326, officials said.
As many as 2,326 passengers were screened at the Leh airport, 489 passengers, including drivers and helpers of trucks and light motor vehicles, were screened at Khaltse, and 278 were screened at Upshi check post on highway, they added.
