VIJAYPUR: Former minister and Senior BJP leader Surjeet Singh Slathia on Monday expressed happiness over the interest being evinced by the reading public in libraries notwithstanding the internet boom, saying this is a healthy and encouraging sign of having the realness of holding books in hands.
Speaking at a function as the Chief Guest after the opening of the Baba Hasal Dev Ji Library at Gurha Slathia in the Vijaypur Assembly Constituency, Slathia said the libraries play pivotal role in providing a congenial atmosphere to readers, especially the students, not only in attaining knowledge of the great and visionary writers by jotting down relevant notes for their assignments but also to exchange views with fellow readers on different aspects of their knowledge. Unlike surfing material on various search engines in these times of digital era, the libraries provide cool and calm environments to pursue literature of one’s interest, he added.
Slathia expressed the hope that the new facility in the area will generate interest among the people to read books and encourage the student community to benefit from the books which many cannot afford. The management of the library should also keep itself updated with the requirements of the readers and accordingly keep adding to their collections, he further hoped.
Slathia exuded confidence that the facilities like the library apart from sports are imperative for channelising the energetic youth towards positive and productive pursuits. This is the need of the hour to save the future of the youngsters who are the hope of the nation. The establishment of the library, he hoped, will attract a large number of youth of the area and its close vicinities to get ornamented with knowledge.
The former minister lauded the Rural Development Department for setting up the library at a cost of Rs 18 lakhs to quench the intellectual and academic thirst of the reading public and also complimented the villagers for contributing Rs 5 lakhs for the establishment of this facility. This speaks of the deep yearning of the people towards promotion of literature and literacy in their area, he added.
Slathia congratulated the people of the area for having the facility, saying apart from books they will have access to all the newspapers and magazines published locally and nationally. This will keep them updated with the current affairs and the happenings going on across the world.
