It has been observed that despite adopting a dedicated and people-friendly approach by UT administration to address the grievances of people in a time-bound manner besides improving work-efficiency and productivity of employees, there are numerous instances where slackness is witnessed on part of the Government officials and other agencies, while implementing the directives of the administration, which is really a matter of grave concern and cause several road-blocks for the administration in achieving various desired objectives. Although, the Government is also ensuring a proper check on the working and conduct of officials but still then, few instances emerge quite often which need immediate attention by the Government. In this regard, as per reports, it has been informed that despite issuing clear-cut instructions by the higher authorities, there are several Government departments which have failed to implement the recommendations made by the Fire & Emergency Services Department, after conducting fire safety audits of the buildings, which can prove fatal in coming days. Pertinent to mention here that looking at rapid increase in the number of fire incidents across UT, the LG, a few months back, directed for carrying out fire safety audits of all Government buildings, especially those which are frequently visited by the public. Accordingly, directives were issued to the concerned authorities and Fire & Emergency Services Department conducted the detailed exercise regarding fire safety audit in more than 200 Government buildings, including hospitals, educational institutions and Civil Secretariat, both at Jammu as well as Srinagar and made necessary recommendations. But it has been reported that despite being a matter of urgent nature, there are several departments which are still mum over the issue and have not acted on the recommendations, thereby creating impediments in achieving the objective behind the much-important exercise, which is directly related to the safety and security of people as well as important official records. Although, fresh directives have been issued to all departments for implementing recommendations besides submitting Action Taken Reports, but the need of the hour is to adopt some specific strategy, so that such slackness, on part of the Government officials, may not hamper Government work again, which is committed for the overall development of J&K.
