Complainant denies; blames police
JAMMU: Reasi rape case on Saturday took a strange turn with 22-year-old complainant turning hostile and denying the allegation against accused in her deposition before the Principal Sessions Judge Reasi. She leveled serious charges saying senior police officers had pressurised her to lodge rape case against the three police officials, including the then Personal Assistant of Senior Superintendent of Police; the then Establishment Incharge and a Constable.
On 11th September 2013, an FIR (122/13) was registered at Police Station Reasi, on the statement of the girl, against the three police officials, PA to SSP Satvir Singh, ASI Ramesh Mehta and Constable Karnail Singh. While Satvir managed to escape, the two other accused were arrested.
According to the FIR, father of the girl lodged a missing report and registered a complaint. After recovering her, she made a statement before the Magistrate.
Next day, the 4-member medical board constituted to examine the girl, had clarified that she was not raped. However, the accused were kept in police custody. After nine months, Ramesh Mehta and Karnail Singh were given interim bail while Satvir remained under ground.
On 29th September, 2014, almost after one year, PA to SSP Satvir Singh surrendered before the court and was arrested. On Saturday, in the open court, the girl stated that she was forced by the senior police officers to give the statement against these officials. Advocate R S Kotwal appeared on behalf of the accused.
After hearing the statements, the Court granted absolute bail to the trio. The next date of hearing has been fixed on 18th Dec, 2014.
