Bribery Case: Court grants 5-day remand of Corporator Jyoti Devi, husband Sham Lal

JAMMU: Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Ritesh Dubey granted five-day remand of Jyoti Devi, Corporator, Ward number 53 (Trikuta Nagar) of Jammu Municipal Corporation and her husband Sham Lal who were arrested by Anticorruption Bureau while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000.
The ACB had received a complaint from a Contractor who was allotted contract work for upgradation of the open area along the main road near Master Mind Classes by Pre-cast of paver tiles and upgradation of open area along main road near `Easy day’ at Ward No: 53, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. who demanded an amount of Rs 10,000 as bribe for issuance of mulba clearance certificate of the works done by him. She also asked the complainant to contact her husband for payment of bribe money. Upon receiving the complaint, FIR 10/2022 P/S ACB-J U/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and 120-B IPC was registered at Police Station ACB-Jammu and a trap team was constituted. The trap team caught Sham Lal red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on behalf of his wife Jyoti Devi from the complainant. Both the accused persons were taken into custody on the spot. Searches at the residential house of the accused persons were also conducted.

BJP expels Corporator Jyoti Devi
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP on Saturday expelled a woman Corporator who was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) along with her husband for taking bribe, a party spokesman said.
J&K BJP President ordered the expulsion of the corporator Jyoti Devi of Trikuta Nagar from the basic membership of the party on the recommendation of the disciplinary committee, the spokesman said.
He said that the action against the corporator was taken in view of the fact that her husband Sham
Lal has been caught accepting a bribe on her behalf.
The ACB trapped and arrested Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Corporator Jyoti Devi and her husband Sham Lal on Friday following a complaint by a contractor that she demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for issuance of Malba’ (debris) clearance certificate to release his payment for the construction work undertaken by him.
Bhartiya Janata Party, as a principled party, has zero tolerance for corruption in public life and believes in maintaining purity in conduct by its leaders and even their families in public functioning and also in private life, said BJP spokesperson.
Report was called from Disciplinary Committee of the party who after looking to fact that her husband having been caught red handed by ACB while taking bribe, recommended strong and quick action against Corporator to instill confidence among masses and workers in the party .Party is led by personal example by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining highest standards and dedication with honesty and there can be no compromise on the fight against corruption . Bhartiya Janata Party is not like other parties who shields or protects corrupt politicians.
While accepting the report of Disciplinary Committee Party President Ravinder Raina took decision to expel Jyoti Devi from Primary Membership of the party.


The contractor had completed construction of allotted work and final payment of the same was pending with JMC Division IV. For making final payment there is a requirement of mulba clearance certificate from the concerned Corporator, for which the contractor approached Jyoti Devi, BJP Corporator of Ward No. 53,
