JAMMU/NEW DELHI: Four years after his name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, Senior Advocate Wasim Sadiq Nargal was on Wednesday appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh High Court.
The recommendation of Nargal was made by the Supreme Court Collegium in 2018 and was one of the oldest pending with the government. The appointment on Wednesday came after the Collegium reiterated the recommendation in 2021.
Wasim Sadiq Nargal is a designated Senior Advocate, who has formally served as Senior Additional Advocate General of J&K Home Department. Nargal hails from Katra and did his initial schooling from Dewan Badri Nath Vidya Mandir, Jammu.
After doing graduation from GGM Science College , Jammu and Law degree from University of Jammu, Nargal started his active practice in March 1991. He has distinction of serving as Standing Counsel for various departments of Government of India, J&K Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Banks, Universities in addition to his own private practice.
In an illustrious career of over 31 years of law practice, Nargal has served as Standing Counsel for University of Jammu, SKUAST-J, Baba Ghulam Shah University Rajouri, Cluster University Jammu. Besides that, he has also remained as a Senior Counsel for Union Public Service Commission, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, Food Corporation of India, J&K Public Service Commission, Service Selection Board, Sales Tax and Exercise Department, JKIMPA , General Administration department and State Pollution Control Board. Nargal has also served as Central Government Counsel, Counsel for J&K Education Department on the terms and conditions as Additional Advocate General.
Due to his brilliant law career, he was recommended long back in August 2017 for elevation as a Judge of J&K High Court and was cleared in 2018 by the SC collegium and subsequently, his case was reiterated in March 2021 and his name has now been finally approved as Judge of common High court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

He has won many landmark cases during his tenure as senior Additional advocate General for Home department and also as a counsel for University and SKUAST-J.
According to notifications issued by the Law Ministry, seven judicial officers from Bihar were elevated as judges of the Patna High Court.
Four additional judges of the Kerala High Court were also elevated as judges. The ministry also notified transfers of six judges.
Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash of Orissa High Court has been transferred to the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah of the Andhra Pradesh High Court has been transferred to the Patna High Court. Justice Subhasis Talaptra of the Tripura High Court has been transferred to the Orissa High Court.
Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh has been sent to the Bombay High Court, while Justice Lanusungkum Jamir of the Manipur High Court has been sent to the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has been transferred to the Delhi High Court.
The judicial officers elevated as judges of the Patna High Court are Shailendra Singh, Arun Kumar Jha, Jitendra Kumar, Alok Kumar Pandey, Sunil Dutta, Chandra Prakash Singh and Chandra Shekhar Jha.
The additional judges of the Kerala High Court elevated as judges are Murali Purushothaman, Ziyad Rahman Alevakkatt Abdul Rahiman, Karunakaran Babu and Dr Kauser Edappagath.
