Despite crores being spent filth, garbage continue to lie on streets, roads

JAMMU: There is no doubt that Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) takes pain in bringing innovation in civic infrastructure and never hesitates in importing the latest technology to improve Temple City’s civic conditions by remaining abreast with what is going on at the global level but when it comes to the implementation part things often go haywire as is the case of newly constructed garbage transfer stations, which are lying unused in absence of fixed compactors despite dissipation of crores of rupees for construction of such transfer stations.
It is pertinent to mention that Jammu Municipal Corporation has constructed garbage transfer stations in many wards to ensure proper disposal of solid waste and management of the garbage in a scientific manner but the sad part of the story is that the will to accomplish job in an exuberant manner is missing as these stations have lying unused for the last more than six to eight months due to which filths are lying here and there unattended in the streets and stray cattle finding it easy to gulp tons of polythene which is still a big part of the city’s garbage despite being banned years’ ago.
Talking to STATE TIMES, Councillor Mohi-Ud-Din Choudhary expressed resentment against the functioning of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. He said that compactors could be reached Jammu before constructing of such transfers stations. Due to mismanagement, the sufferings of people have been increased manifold. Mohi-Ud-Din Choudhary said that instead of managing the garbage the JMC has recently closed the dumping point near Pir Kho Temple at Circular Road as the same dumping point caters to near about four wards comprising No 3, 5, 6 and 7. He said that after the closure of this garbage collecting point, Garbage collecting autos are straightaway going to the Bhagwati Nagar to dump the garbage collected from the residential areas which seems to be a great inconvenience for the sanitation workers in collecting the waste and shifting the same to Bhagwati Nagar. Corporator Ward No 32, Sat Paul Karlupia, said that it’s the responsibility of JMC authorities to install compactors well before time but it could not happen. He said the whole Jammu city is waiting for installation of compactors. He made a fervent appeal to the JMC Commissioner to immediately carry out necessary steps to make these garbage shifting stations functional so that the garbage should be managed scientifically instead of remaining scattered on the roads.
Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta told STATE TIMES that the Municipal Corporations has placed an order for fixed compactors in several wards of Jammu city and very soon the same will be installed at the garbage transfer stations thus paving way for the start of the modern technique of garbage disposal. He hoped that such garbage transfer stations should be made functional within a period of one month with the installation of fixed compactors.
