Postal services restored in Kashmir: CPMG
JAMMU: Postal services in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir have been fully restored as most of post offices have been re-opened again in Kashmir except 12.
“All these post offices have been opened again and postmasters and inspectors have restored working in all post offices except about a dozen post offices,” Chief Post Master General, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandra Prakash told reporters here on Monday .
He said recent floods in September in Srinagar and other parts of J and K have badly affected working of number of post offices.
“Srinagar General Post Office (GPO) and Anantnag Head Offices (HO) which were affected are now functioning normally,” he said.
All Sub Post Offices and Branch Post Offices except about a dozen have started functioning normal, Prakash said.
“Mail movement has been restored through special efforts and special arrangements,” he said, adding, “We are sure that remaining 12 post offices will also start functioning normally within next 10 days”.
“We appreciate the efforts of our officers and staff who are working beyond office hours to restore normal working,” he said.
CPMG said once again officers and staff of India Post in J and K assured the public of J and K to provide best possible and latest services.
Prakash said India Post is celebrating National Postal Week throughout the country from 9th to 15th October.
“First day is celebrated as World Post Day as Universal Postal Union was set up on this day in 1874 to facilitate movement of mails among the countries of the world,” he said.
On this occasion, Chief Postmaster General has extended best wishes to the public of J and K and the staff of Post Offices in J and K.
He has also expressed commitment of the employees of India Post in J and K to provide best possible mail, parcel, savings bank, money transfer and related services.
“Post Offices have been providing mail services like letters, post cards, inland letters, registered letters, parcels and related services and also facilities of Post Office Savings Bank and money transfer and money orders, postal orders, etc”.
During last 25 years post office has started a number of new customer friendly services like Speed Post, Business Post, Express Parcel, Business Parcel, e-Post, e-Payment, Electronic Money Order, Instant Money Orders Services and International Money Order Services which are being used widely by the public, he said.
“All Head Post Offices and Sub Post Offices have been computerised,” he said, adding that Branch Post Offices of rural areas are also being computerised within next one year.
Core Banking Services and ATM facilities are to be started in major post offices within six months, he said.
