Scarcity of drinking water
Dear Editor,
There is a scarcity of drinking water in village Sobka (Garota) Tehsil Jammu due to the negligence of Public Health Engineering Department. The water is supplied from the tube well which is two kms from the main village Sobka (Garota). The special lines were laid down twice for our village and similarly for other Mohallas.
The people residing on both sides of the main water supply line have taken number of illegal connections. Therefore, the water supply to our village remains affected and all the request to officials have fallen indeaf ears of the authorities concerned. All this has caused hardship for the residents of the villages. Whenever we approached XEN Akhnoor, he never bothered to take the request seriuos but he insists we meet first AEE concerned who further directs the people to meet JE but nothing practically has been done till date for the convince of the people. A valve on the line has been broken for the last one month and nobody takes any care for its repair which does not cost more than Rs. 500.
Due to leakage of the pipe thousands of litres of precious water is going waste daily due to the negligence of the concerned authorities.
The quantity of water wasted is so much that a sort of pond has come up near the leaking point and dirty water from this pond flows back into the pipes when the supply is stopped. There is no coordination between the authorities of the departments concerned and people of the area are left to suffer at their hands. We the residents of village Sobka appeal Chief Engineer. PHE, Jammu to direct the concerned XEN Akhnoor to take immediate action for earliest relief to the public.
