75 timber depots opened for flood victims

ANANTNAG: Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad on Friday visited Anantnag District and inspected timber sale depots at Awantipora, Pampore and Bijbehera. On the instructions of the minister, 75 temporary sale depots have already been set up in South Kashmir including Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama for providing timber to the flood affected families while 43333 cfts of timber have been dumped in 43 sale depots against the target of 3.93 lakh cfts so far.
The minister asked officers concerned to issue timber to the affected families on the basis of the list received from Deputy Commissioner concerned without conducting further verification, at the rates prescribed by the government. He asked the officers to assess damage caused to forest infrastructure and the nurseries falling under the jurisdiction of south circle
Later, the minister visited forest complex Anantnag which has been damaged in recent floods.
