J&K Police to meet SSB in group opener on Feb 2

JAMMU: Hosts Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) shall be playing against SSB in the opening league tie of group-E on February two in the 72nd All India Police Hockey Championship being organised under the banner of All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) at K K Hakhu Stadium, here tomorrow.
The mega event is part of the All India Police Games organised across various disciplines across the country in group formation (cluster) and individual events involving belt forces of the country and those state and union territories every year.
In Hockey, the competition shall be held in both men and women sections. While the men’s preliminary group round shall take place at K K Hakhu Stadium, the women matches shall be played on University of Jammu grounds, here.
The 10-day mega event witness international stars playing for central para-military forces and the Border Security Force (BSF). The J&K Police has been a successful host in the past too.
Eight groups
Late in the evening, the technical penal declared the draws of lots involving eight groups in men section and four others in women category consisting three teams each.
MEN: Group-A: Punjab, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. Group-B: ITBP, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Group-C: Odisha, Uttrakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Group-D: CISF, Gujarat and Chandigarh. Group-E: Jammu Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and SSB. Group-F: Tamil Nadu, BSF and Haryana. Group-F: CRPF, Kerala and RPF. Group-G: West Bengal, Telangana, Puducherry and Jharkhand.
Women: Group-A: CRPF and Haryana. Group-B: SSB and Uttar Pradesh. Group-C: Odisha, Maharshtra and Gujarat. Group-D: Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier, Director General of Police J&K R.R. Swain chaired a meeting at Police headquarters to review the arrangements for the event.
Every individual officer and unit should put in best efforts to make All India Police Hockey Championship, a mega national event being held at Jammu from tomorrow a huge success, Swain said.
The DGP directed the officers to ensure an engaging and memorable experience for all the participating athletes by putting best possible arrangements for the event.
The DGP emphasized for efficient and coordinated medical facilities for the participants as well as support staff during the event, in view of the physical demand of the sport.
The arrangements like accommodation, transportation, medicare, logistics, parking facilities, publicity, grounds etc for the event remained key areas of focus during the meeting. The arrangements regarding opening and closing ceremonies were also discussed and reviewed.
The ADGP Armed J&K, S.J.M Gillani who is also chairperson of the organizing committee briefed the DGP regarding the arrangements of the whole event including schedules of matches and connected programmes of the championship through a detailed powerpoint presentation.
Secretary JKSC, Nuzhat Gul briefed about the assistance and support J&K Sports Council is extending for the event.
The meeting was also attended by ADGsP M.K Sinha, Sunil Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Anand Jain, IGP Armed Jammu M.N. Tiwari, DIsG Sara Rizvi, Javaid Iqbal Matoo, SSsP Jammu, PCR Jammu, Security Jammu and Traffic Jammu, AIsG (Welfare) and (Training & Policy), Medical Superintendent Police Hospital Jammu, General Secretary Hockey J&K, Senior Vice president Hockey J&K, Jammu based JKAP/IR Commandants.
