68th NSG: Manipur emerges overall Champion in Girls, Haryana in Boys

JAMMU: Producing stellar performances throughout the championship, the girls team of Manipur became overall Champion, while Haryana boys performed equally well to emerge overall Champions in boys category of the ongoing 68th National School Games in the discipline of Fencing, organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K, under the banner of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu here.

Manipur secured 32 points and lifted the title trophy in girls category, while Haryana with 19 points and CBSE WSO with 13 points remained 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
Meanwhile, by securing 22 points, Haryana emerged Champions in boys category, while Manipur with 16 points was adjudged as the runners-up and Punjab with 11 points bagged the 2nd runners-up spot.
With 9 points in their kitty J&K boys remained at 4th spot, while with 3 points J&K girls were at 6th spot in their category.
However, J&K won a total of 6 medals with one Silver and 3 Bronze in U-17 Boys and Girls Fencing Championship and bagged 6 medals with 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals earlier in U-14 Boys and Girls Fencing Championship, thus making it a total of 12 medals in this prestigious event which is as part of a record series of four National level events of 68th National School Games (NSG) including Judo, Fencing, Wushu and Football, being hosted by Jammu and Kashmir, under the banner of School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
Earlier, in U-17 Boys Epee Individual today, Vikrampatni of Gujarat bagged Gold, Ravi Kumar Yadav of Bihar won Silver, while the Bronze medals were claimed by Shambanduram of Manipur and Saaid Ur Rehman of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ashok Kumar Khajuria, Director Finance, Youth Services and Sports and Technical Education was the Chief Guest on the Prize Distribution Function, who alongwith Ved Prakash, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu; Sunil Kumar Sharma, Accounts Officer Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K and Harvinder Kaur, Converner Ceremonies Committee 68th National School Games presented medals to the winners on the occasion.
Terming these Games as historic, Khajuria said that this sporting extravaganza portrays the picture of the commitment Jammu and Kashmir Government has towards promoting sports in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said it has been learnt that around 4000 athletes across the country are taking part in these Games for which the Department of Youth Services and Sports deserves salutations.
“Holding four National level events on the trot is always an uphill task, however, one observed the department is conducting these events in a most befitting manner. Moreover, J&K fencers have won 12 medals in the Fencing event and have kept J&K Flag high. They deserve salutation,” maintained Khajuria.
