JAMMU: Around 50 kg of poppy was on Thursday seized from a load carrier during a search operation here following which its driver was arrested, police said.
Police intercepted the vehicle bearing registration number JKO3D / 3042 after setting up a check-point at Bye-pass (Bagh-e-Bahu area) in Jammu city and about 50 Kg poppy was recovered from it during the search, they said.
The truck driver, identified as Nek Ram, son of Pinju Ram, resident of Kodga Block Dansal was arrested for smuggling the poppy, police said.
A case under FIR No. 35/2015 Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered against the driver and further probe into the matter has been initiated, they said.
The arrest was made by Inspector Jasbir Singh, SHO Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
